Potomac Chess Club was founded in 2018. We are a student-run chess club based in Potomac, Maryland. Our club was started as a way to introduce the game of chess to young kids. At first glance, chess seems like a simple game but our goal is to reveal its depth and beauty to our young students and show them how much one can benefit from this ancient strategic game.

 

We used to have our weekly meetings in the conference room of the Potomac Library in the summer, which allowed kids of all ages to join freely, learn the game, and have fun. Since 2020, we have begun to make the transition from in-person teaching to online learning. We currently offer lessons to students of all ages and levels free of charge. Our club meets weekly and our student instructors give lessons on different levels that match students' skill levels. We currently have six coaches but we are growing our team.
