Chen-Chen Ye

I am a Senior Montgomery Blair High School. I started playing chess when I was 6 and have enjoyed this fascinating game ever since. I have won notable tournaments and my current USCF rating is 2106. Chess has taught me a lot about logical thinking, game spirit, and attitude towards win and loss. I hope to share my positive chess-learning experience with my students.  

Hailey Tien

 

Hailey is a Senior at Thomas Wootton High School. She has started learning chess since second grade at her school's chess club and has experience at chess tournaments. She can help young beginners to understand the basic principles of chess and develop into chess players.

Byron Wu

Byron Wu is a Junior from Thomas S. Wootton High School. He has played chess for over ten years and served as a coaching assistant for six. Byron also avidly attends chess tournaments and has extensive experience with coaching beginner students starting from fundamentals, such as how to move pieces or basic tactics. In serving as a chess coach, Byron hopes not only to teach the game but also to inspire others to develop the same passion and enthusiasm towards chess as he feels.   
 

Shubo Zhang

 

I am a Junior at Winston Churchill High School. I have been playing chess for about 10 years now and am 1600. I recommend anyone to just come and try it-there are no requirements to play chess. I hope that you will not hesitate to ask me any questions and that I can help you to love chess as much as I do.

Joshua Liu
 

My name is Joshua Liu, I am a rising 9th grader and started playing chess when I was 7 years old. As I played and studied more I enjoyed it more and more. Currently, my peak USCF rating is 1727 and I hope I will improve in the years to come. I have learned skills and hope to share my knowledge with you.

Alex Kim
 

Alex is a 10th Grader at Clarksburg High School and currently attending Montgomery College. He is a dedicated chess player with years of experience, actively palying in USCF-rated tournaments. He is always striving to improve his game and he also enjoys teaching others the wonders of Chess.

Former Coach

Ryan He

Ryan He is an excellent chess player with a peak USCF rating of ~2000. He has been a finalist at ~10 state-level tournaments, including 2nd place at 2020 Maryland Sweet-16 (an annual scholastic tournament for top 16 MD chess players competing for a full scholarship to UMBC), and MD State Team Champion (representing Takoma Park MS) and individual runner-up, etc. Ryan has been coaching chess at different after-school programs for 4 years in a row, more recently as a teaching staff at Hope Chinese School. He has been affiliated with the Potomac Chess Club for more than four years. Ryan seeks to improve students' chess skills and also to share his love for the game. As a recent graduate from  Montgomery Blair High School, Ryan will attend the University of Pennsylvania.
